We had lots of fun during science day today. We went into the space dome in the morning; we had to crawl through the entrance, along the tunnel and then we got to the large, dark dome. We saw lots of stars projected onto the side of the dome and learnt some of the stories about the constellations. We also watched a light show about the solar system and shared our space knowledge with the space dome adults! They were very impressed.
In the afternoon we learnt about astronaut's space suits and Miss Vaughan set us a challenge to see which material would be best to make a space suit out of. To do this we tested which materials were waterproof. We squirted water onto the material which was over a glass with a toy inside. After we had squirted the water we felt whether the toy had got wet. We predicted before we tested and we recorded our results after. We were all in agreement that the plastic sheeting was waterproof and that is what we should use that to make our spacesuit. The suit is still under construction, await family assembly to see the finished product!
Other areas of the classroom were busy too with independent activities going on we had rocket making, rocket pack making, moon sand, name the alien table and counting planets and stars.
Sounds, Pictures and Cursive Letters
Each child will have a copy of these as a sound sheet to bring home over the Christmas holidays. The pictures are the same pictures we have been using alongside learning each sound. We encourage children to read all fonts but the letters on your child’s sheet are written cursively because that is how we are currently learning to write.
Here is what our class elf has challenged us with so far, some are a little cryptic...
