Today we ate Peter Rabbit's most favourite food of all- carrots! We used our sentence writing skills to then write a sentence about whether we did or didn't like them. We stuck them on one ginormous carrot and conducted a carrot eating survey. Using our maths skills next to accurately count the children who did and didn't like them. Take a look at the top of the carrot to read the numbers Ethan and Bobby recorded.
We also started on making a larger Mr McGregor's garden in our allotment. The children along with Mrs Batchelor prepared the beds and planted lots of vegetables, from salad leaves, to potatoes and of course some carrots. We learnt all about what plants need to stay healthy today, you might like to see if your child can tell you! We will be looking after the allotment area and keeping a close eye on all the things growing in there over the next term.
Today we all brought in and shared our favourite book from home. Some children talked about their favourite page and other's referred to their tales tookit to describe the story to others (characters, setting, problem and solution). There were lots of comparisons and children excited to share that they had heard the same story as someone else. Alfie and Toby both brought in non fiction books, we discussed the difference and Alfie explained the reason how he knew 'it's got numbers at the back' (index).
The children made a puppet of a character from their favourite book. They used lots of joining techniques using various materials. They then used them in the puppet theatre, there were some interesting stories.
The children also collaboratively made miniature Mr McGregor's gardens today. See if you can spot in the photos below stone pathways, some matchstick fences, a Peter Rabbit scarecrow, a white cat sat at a pond, a muddy puddle, some signs and some tissue paper vegetables...
We began our book week by listening to 'Tales Of Peter Rabbit'. The story ended with Rudi exclaiming 'woah that was a good story!' We have been working on our using our tales toolkit this term so we worked through the story in the afternoon and using our tales toolkit the children identified the characters, setting, problems and solutions. We talked throughout the day about great words we could use to describe the characters, with Lazayah describing Mr McGregor as 'furious' and Charlie reasoning why he thought Mr McGregor was 'emotional' some fantastic vocabulary.
We learned that Peter Rabbit was rather fond of Mr McGregor's vegetables. We all made salad wraps and discussed if we liked or didn't like the same food as Peter Rabbit. We understood that Peter Rabbit must be quite a healthy rabbit!
