Today we began our French themed Arts Week. We began the morning learning about where France is and about how to travel there. We learnt some French greetings and about French food. Mrs Batchelor took out groups of children to make French toast, it was yummy! Mr Higgs visited our class to teach us about some French Artists and show us some famous paintings. We made French flags by out of red and blue mosaic tiles. In the afternoon we learnt about Matisse. We watched a video story called Henri's Scissors and found out when Matisse was older he made art from collaging different coloured bits of paper. We had a go ourselves.
Tuesday 5th June - Arts Week Day 2
Mrs Mullaney worked with us today. In the morning we learnt about Georges Seurat who painted using a style called pointillism, this is where you are only allowed to use dots.
In the afternoon we found out about the Eiffel Tower and made our own out of art straws and masking tape, and lego.
Wednesday - Day 3
Today we made Kadinsky trees. We learnt about the French Artist Kadinsky and copied his style to make our own. This took us all day because there was a lot to do! We had to paint our backgrounds, draw and cut out a tree from black card and finally cut out lots of circles and layer them up to make the leaves. All this effort was worth it because the children's art work is fantastic!
Thursday - Day 4
This morning it was Ashton Vale's Got Talent. Many children from Flamingo Class performed. There was such an array of talent: from dancing to singing, football skills to breakdancing. Well done Year 2, I was very proud of you.
This afternoon we got out the iPad's and did some pointillism pictures using them.
Friday - Day 5
Today we learnt about Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. We looked at the gargoyles on the cathedral and from the Disney film. We then made our own gargoyle out of class. Also we painted our owls we made before half term.
This afternoon we did watercolour paintings in the style of Monet.
